H. L. Lang & Co. takes pride in retaining age-old traditions while keeping pace with the modern ways of retailing. Lang's has been in business for over 120 years, since 1885. Tom King, the owner, is a registered jeweler of diamonds and is a member of the American Gem Society.

At Lang's you may purchase a quality diamond that is already mounted, or may choose a loose diamond to combine with the mounting which reflects your taste and personality. Lang's specializes in fine diamonds and gold jewelry, gold and silver jewelry and crystal holloware, designer jewelry special orders, and remounting and repairs.

Lang's history goes back to the days when Henry L. Lang, an engraver and watchmaker by trade, came to Staunton in 1885 and opened a jewelry store on property which he purchased on the corner of Beverley and Augusta Streets. In 1895, he sold the building and moved his store to its present location at 11 West Beverley Street in Staunton, Virginia.

Mr. Lang was not only a gifted engraver and took pride in his work but was also one of the first licensed optometrists in Virginia and he operated as a jeweler and an optometrist for 55 years. He did all of the work by hand, from the original design to the finished product and many youngsters learned watchmaking and engraving under Mr. Lang's apprenticeship. Mr. Lang served on City Council for a number of years, worked as an active Mason and served as an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church until his death early in 1940.

The store has had several owners since that time, but carries on the tradition of having the best lines available and in recent years as added quality lines of designer jewelry to complement their traditional jewelry selections.

The store has been redecorated and altered over the years, but the fine old walnut showcases made for the store are as impressive and elegant today as they were 100 years ago.
